Day 1: Luang Prabang: First Impressive Warmup Day (L, D/Cycle 20 km/4 star resort)
Meet your guide early in the morning to get sized up on one of our quality mountain bikes. Ride a short distance to the Mekong River, where we’ll board a ferry to cross. On this newest tour, you’ll explore the opposite side of the Mekong River, meeting villagers, observing animals, and sampling local snacks along the way.
We’ll embark on a 20km (3-hour) looping circuit of medium biking on dirt roads with some hills. There’s ample shade, and you’ll feel miles away from Luang Prabang due to the absence of other tourists and traffic.
Enjoy views of Luang Prabang from the river as we ride on gravel roads past rice fields and amazing scenery. We’ll stop in a village to try local snacks and observe daily life. Continuing on single tracks, we’ll pass farmlands and animals. Ensure your camera is charged for the stunning photos you’ll take.
We’ll stop again in another village for cold drinks and to watch locals going about their business. After exploring a little longer on single tracks, we’ll hit the tarmac for a short while before reaching the ferry. We’ll have lunch at a local restaurant near the ferry landing, with your guide accompanying you every step of the way.
In the evening, over dinner at a great local vocational restaurant, we will discuss the ride ahead. Overnight in Luang Prabang!
Day 2: Kuang Si Waterfalls (B, L/Trek 8km & Cycle 27km)
Start with a short transfer to the village of Long Lao, a thriving Hmong community of around 80 families. The community manages an excellent 8km trail that finishes at the top of Kuang Si Falls. We can enjoy lunch and a swim in the crystal waters before we stop at the Laos Water Buffalo Dairy on the way back from the city. This rare and interesting community project educates locals in animal husbandry and welfare, helps provide valuable income and diversification to remote rural villages, and makes some truly amazing ice cream!
Day 3: Luang Prabang Mount Phousi, Almsgiving, Pak ou Caves (L/Cycle 35 Km/4 star resort)
Up early this morning to give alms to the many temples of the city, we will find a spot on the roadside to witness this serene procession of orange-clad novices and monks collecting donations from the local community.
After the procession, we will take a short hike to the top of Mount Phousi to view the early morning bustle of the town, then head back to the hotel for breakfast.
Our ride today takes us north of the city to Pak Ou and the famous Buddha Cave. This holy monument is a key attraction in the area and is still worshipped and used to this day. We will have a local-style lunch on the beach at Pha An and enjoy a swim in the Nam Ou River before cycling back to Luang Prabang!
